Squatch is our 1998 Military cargo truck. The most common questions we get are:

What is it? or is it an Unimog? It’s not an Unimog, It’s a U.S. Military LMTV or Light Medium Tactical Vehicle. It was made in Texas by Stewart & Stevenson. This model is an M1078. Other models include a dump truck, crane truck, wrecker and van body (many people choose the van to turn it into an RV). It is, as you would suspect, a 4 wheel drive and it has a 2.5 ton payload and this one also has a hydraulic winch with 180′ of cable that be used in a front or rear configuration. Another cool feature is the CTIS (central tire inflation system). With the push of a button, you can air the tires up or down to various pressures for highway, offroad, sand &mud or emergency (such as when the tire has a bullet hole).

How much did it cost? In todays money, it cost about $200k. Used ones can be found starting at about $20k and up. Squatch came from a military auction and turned out to be a great truck, but I wouldn’t recommend buying at auction since you really don’t know what you’re getting.

What’s the mpg? Not great!

The 6×6 is known as an MTV and has a 5 ton payload. One of the variants has the HIMARS rocket system that is currently being used by Ukraine. It also features an armoured cab.
